Brimfield Government
- Brimfield
Brimfield Township government is a government based on the Ohio Revised Code. A three member elected board of trustees, elected at large in odd-numbered years for four years, overlapping terms, is the legislative and executive body of Township government. The Trustees act in the combined capacity of mayors and as city council, generally performing the duties normally assigned to these governmental bodies. The duly elected trustees are responsible for appointing members to the Zoning commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals, and for hiring in any township department. The elected Clerk-Treasurer position is a four-year position that is responsible for maintaining the records of all township meetings and associated public minutes. The clerk is also the chief financial officer who is responsible for all township accounts and certifies that the funds are there for any approved board expenditure. Brimfield
Township was founded officially in 1818 by John Thorndike, and Brimfield Township maintains 2 cemeteries, Restland located off of State Rt. 43 and the oldest called Westlawn which is located off of Mogadore Rd. The founding family of Brimfield is interred at Restland, having been moved from the Thorndike family cemetery. The Township Trustees have open public meetings, every other Wednesday, year round. The biweekly township trustee meetings are open to the public. The Fire Department, offices of Zoning & Community Development, Road Department and secretarial staff are all housed in the Town Hall, next to the Town Green and gazebo, with an entrance located on Tallmadge Road. Brimfield Township is a rapidly expanding community dedicated to maintaining its rural identity, balancing progress and needed expansion. We, as Trustees and as local government are committed and dedicated to providing for the continuing safety and needs of our growing community.
