DARE is a community based
program focusing on educating children and young people on the
dangers of using drugs and engaging in
violence. DARE has origins in the inter-city of Los
Angeles, California and is now an international program. There are
over 40,000 DARE officers in schools all over the world helping to
educate young people. DARE is a fantastic resource which creates a
partnership between police officers, teachers and parents.
The Brimfield Police
Department has two officers trained to teach the DARE curriculum.
Both officers are committed to providing a safe school environment
and educating the students.
Sergeant William
(Bill) Reese
Sergeant Reese attended
the police academy in 1993 and has been a full-time member of the
Brimfield Police Department since 1999. He is a state certified DARE
instructor. Sergeant Reese is the supervisor in charge of the DARE
program and other community policing projects. In addition to his
DARE duties, Sergeant Reese performs other supervisory
responsibilities. Sergeant Reese is also a negotiator for the Metro
SWAT team, trained in crisis intervention and is also the supervisor
of the evidence and property room.
Officer Russell
Diehl
Officer Diehl attended
the University of Akron Police Academy in 2003. He became a
full-time officer with the Brimfield Police Department in early
2004. Officer Diehl is a state certified DARE instructor. In
September 2006 Officer Diehl became a full-time school resource
officer for the Field Local School district. He is assigned to the high
school/middle school campus. Officer Diehl will instruct DARE
classes for the 2007-2008 school year, with the assistance of
Sergeant Reese.
